PARTICIPANT VALUE
The New Lexicon offers participants a sustained framework in which to deepen the philosophical, methodological, and communicative dimensions of their theoretical practices. Over several months, participants can move beyond the compressed exchange of a single conference panel or workshop and develop questions through presentation, response, revision, comparison, and public articulation.
Participants gain time to compare the assumptions of different approaches, reconsider the relation between method and object, and develop language that can travel responsibly across disciplines, repertories, institutions, and diverse communities of practice.
The programme enables participants to:
– clarify the concepts and philosophical commitments implicit in their analytical and theoretical decisions;
– advance essays, models, pedagogical projects, and research trajectories through substantive critical feedback;
– develop more precise vocabularies for presenting, contextualising, and evaluating their work;
– test theoretical and philosophical propositions within an international research community;
– encounter methodologies, repertoires, conceptual traditions, and modes of evidence beyond their usual fields of reference;
– situate their practices within wider historical, philosophical, technological, institutional, cultural, and political debates;
– establish intellectual relationships and formulate new directions for research, teaching, publication, and collaboration.
This broader contextualisation is not intended to displace the specificity of theoretical work. It enables participants to understand more clearly how their practices construct objects, distribute attention, establish standards of evidence, participate in disciplinary histories, and respond to the musical worlds they seek to explain.
The residency may generate new analytical approaches, research questions, teaching formats, publications, lectures, and intellectual relationships extending beyond the programme’s formal duration. It supports work capable of circulating across theoretical, philosophical, artistic, pedagogical, and public contexts without requiring those contexts to become identical. Its value lies not in delivering a single model of successful theory, but in enabling participants to formulate stronger questions, make more accountable methodological choices, and communicate the significance and limits of their claims with greater precision.
